Unique Day Of The Dead Costume Ideas For Celebrating Dia De Los Muertos

Celebrate Dia De Los Muertos with these stunning Day of the Dead costume ideas. Our Day of the Dead costumes give us a way to express ourselves for Dia de Los Muertos celebrations, Halloween parties and any Day of the Dead festivities, really.

Dia de Los Muertos festivities are traditionally held on November 1st (All Saints Day) and November 2nd (All Souls Day), especially in Central and Southern Mexico.  In the United States, the fun and celebrations get started at Halloween.

Over the last decade or so, the Dia de Los Muertos celebrations have become even more popular in the United States.  This may be partly due to the growing Hispanic population.  There’s also a growing desire to honor traditions by learning about them and keeping them alive.

Now don’t think that folks are partying in disrespect of their dead loved ones.  This unique observance started with the ancient indigenous people of Mexico and was then blended with Catholic special days after the Spanish arrived.  The observances slowly combined the ancient pagan celebrations with the religious traditions to attract the indigenous people to the Catholic church.

The purpose of the festivities today is to celebrate the lives of family and friends who are no longer with us.

That beautiful tradition of celebrating the lives of loved ones is beautiful.  There’s traditional food, there are parties, parades…and there are Day of the Dead costumes!  It’s fabulous fun if you can make it to one of the celebrations.  Be sure and dress up for it!
