Just the other day, I was at my daughter’s college, waiting to collect her. I saw a woman stroll in with a small boy, who’s probably two years old. He started to play and run around like children do. But when he distanced himself a bit from the mother, I heard the mother call out to him, “John!” Now, this is what I do not understand. Who still calls their boy John? The name has been used redundantly and often through the years. I mean, there must be millions of Johns on this planet. How can parents still want to choose this plain, tired name? We must have looked at 100s of new born baby names before deciding on one. You can keep a pen and pad handy to scribble down the ones you may want to select later. Another way is to narrow it down by heritage. Let’s say that you come from an Irish background as I do. You can search online for all the Irish names known to man. Choose boy or girl names and start sorting.
Don’t take the quick, easy route with some tired, used-up name. Do a little investigating before settling on Jane or Joe. There are countless new born baby names that are beautiful, and not that common. Remember that your kid is going to have to live with this name for the rest of his/her life. Make them proud of the name you gave them.
