Dragon Con Atlanta
Yes, fellow sci-fi fans, it’s Dragon Con weekend in Atlanta! Dragon Con Atlanta celebrated it’s 30th anniversary this weekend . It’s slated to be the biggest and best Dragon Con since it started in 1987.
Dragon Con is a fan favorite of gamers and fans of science fiction of all flavors. Boasting a parade, the event includes celebrity guests, exhibitions, workshops, several awards to be presented and hundreds of vendors.
One of the best parts of these conventions is seeing all the costumes used by attendees. Conventions like this one have a big influence over costumes. Pictures and video are highly anticipated. Those of us who can’t attend Dragon Con Atlanta can live vicariously through those images!
Among the celebrities attending are William Shatner and Karl Urban, two of my own personal favorites from my favorite franchise, Star Trek. I’m looking forward to hearing about any Shatner news.

Dragon Con Atlanta is a world famous pop culture, fantasy, sci-fi and gaming convention for gamers and sci fi fans. This year’s festivities include observances of Star Trek’s 50th Anniversary and the David Bowie movie, Labyrinth’s 30th anniversary.
Contests At Dragon Con Atlanta
Dragon Con holds several contests over the convention period. These are a HOOT and I can’t wait to see pictures of the winners. Of particular interest:
- Dragon Awards (new this year) “to recognize outstanding achievement in science fiction and fantasy literature, comics, gaming and filmed entertainment”
- The Julie Award, for universal achievement spanning multiple genres
- Star Wars Costume Contest
- Miss Star Trek Universe Pageant
- Masquerade Costume Contest
- Hallway Costume Contest
- Friday Night Costuming Contest
- Cosplay Contest
That’s only a partial list of contests and other events scheduled for the Labor Day weekend Dragon Con. The other tracks may include costume contests as well. Of note is the World Of Warcraft Costume Contest in the Video Gaming track.
Hey, what a great idea for a Halloween party. A costume contest! Don’t stop at Halloween either ~ throw a costume party at Mardi Gras time. Do we really need reasons for having costume parties?
Well, those are my musings. How about you? Have you been to Dragon Con? Have you been to a con of any kind? What do you think will be the most popular costumes at the convention?
